“I once had occasion to hear a phonograph record made by an ad agency in the mid 1960’s that was produced with the intent to convince very square small business owners that the agency was “with it” enough to sell their cars and insurance and such to the alien new generation who listened to rock and roll on the radio. If I could find this recording again I would recommend it here. Instead, I give you the Street Sharks. Produced by people who did not understand what was going on but had somehow convinced other people that they had. The Street Sharks misunderstand a cultural moment so profoundly that they define that moment. I suppose this is all aftershocks from Sha-Na-Na.”
