“For a long time, the only cut you could get of AMADEUS was the “director’s cut”, which the director liked less than the theatrical cut. The theatrical cut is better for the same reasons the movie is better than the play- for all of the ornament and glitter there is a simple, sublime core to this story, and the simpler telling lets it shine even more. The theatrical cut is now streaming all over the place (I think it’s even on Tubi for free) and it’s definitely worth revisiting.”
