“Automating your savings is a given, but I used to go shopping and buy the nice things on my list as soon as I got paid. My spending account would obviously be left with less money, which is not great when you realize you still have recurring bills, essentials, coffee runs and dinner dates to pay for. I’ve realized that the best way to hack the system is to go shopping and buy those nice-to-haves just before my next payday. That way, I can feel comfortable going out and paying for everything throughout the month without feeling stretched, then treat myself right before I get paid so my money goes right back up! That secures a treat without fail - this month, it was an antique bookshelf, original framed artwork, and a couple ceramic pieces.”
