“I’m not fishing for compliments here- I’m not good at painting. Between my unsteady hand (I can’t draw a straight line!) and getting bad grades in elementary school art class, I have probably picked up a paintbrush a handful of times in my life (outside of a simple one color paint job or one guided by painters tape). I got a gorgeous vintage cabinet last week and for some reason I decided I should paint the floral details and trim. I’m three days in and it’s been so messy and so…fun! I keep reminding myself “this is low stakes- I have all the paint I need to correct my mistakes” and I just keep going. I’m having to correct a lot but I also love how it looks. It’s okay to be bad at things and do them anyway! Sometimes you might even get better- and even if you don’t, you’re still having fun trying.”
