“If you go to Madrid and you don't have a merlitón (iconic pastry) and a café con leche templada en vaso (warm coffee in a glass) at La Mallorquina, what are you even doing? Here's how it’s done: go to La Mallorquina in Puerta del Sol, and walk through the crowd in front of the pastry cases, all the way to the back. Then order and stand at the bar while you enjoy what might just be the best coffee of your life. Is it the pairing with the merlitón, this different way of drinking coffee, or their special torrefacto blend (traditional method of roasting coffee beans with sugar) - who's to say? Oh, and don't be surprised if you end up having a conversation with a Madrileño about world politics. La Mallorquina has been serving Madrid since 1894.”
