“It’s spring of 2005, and my family is in Pembroke Pines, Florida visiting my grandfather at his retirement condo (this was before it was co-opted by the son of his scammer “lady friend” as a place to grow hydroponic pot but that’s another tale). We are at the Broward County Library stocking up on some media because this whole trip is excruciatingly boring. I decide to check out “Rumors”. I pop the CD in my Discman and am kinda half-listening until I get to “The Chain.” The propulsion, the anger, all of it. I did not know that a single song could be like a religious experience. I have told people that if I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, it would be this one.”
