“I had two pretty significant stretches of depression/anxiety in my life. The first sorted itself out over the course of a year so when the second hit I thought it would do the same, but it just went on and on. I resisted getting on meds for too long because I thought they’d make me not myself. Eventually I couldn’t keep my head in the sand anymore so finally gave in to loved ones’ urging, and as usual they were right. Took a bit of doing to zero in on the right dose but what I’ve come to understand is that the SSRIs have helped me feel like myself again. It was the depression and anxiety that was making me not myself. Just putting this here for anyone else operating under the same misconception. Ymmv, ofc!”
