“I'm deep into my sixteenth winter of living in the emotional rollercoaster of a city that is Melbourne... and by that I mean the weather changes every five minutes here (Crowded House even wrote a song about it) and the winters get ICY.
So basically what I'm saying is, a babe's gotta learn to be PREPARED FOR ANYTHING. A wise motto for life in general tbh.
Layer a singlet or skin-tight base layer/thermal, a thin long-sleeve top (I've got some brilliant Heatech ones from Uniqlo), a knit or thicker top to layer on top and a coat or jacket. Sometimes I even layer stockings/leggings under pants for extra warmth!
Carry a fold-up tote bag inside your handbag that you can take out to carry a jacket in if you need to take it off. Scarves, gloves, hats are all great warming items that don't take up much space in your bag.
Layers that fold up super compact are practical.
Before going anywhere, I check the weather (to decide whether to bring an umbrella, or whether to get an Uber vs walk vs take the tram) and then do a mental checklist to determine what type of layers I'll need depending on the event.”
