Sick-as-hell wooden train set

Preferably one with tunnels and bridges. As a spunky toddler I enjoyed preforming rescues when people got tied to the tracks or making up near-death misses when it looked like the track switch wouldn’t be activated in time.

Community Playthings Mini Blocks

Made in the USA. Maybe start his block collection? These maple blocks are produced by the Bruderhof community, a group that has manufactured wooden play equipment since 1947. Smooth, precise, and encourages hours of creating and building.

Welcome to the world of Maileg. This toy has been a hit since she was about this age and Santa/Easter Bunny continue to add to her collection. I can put on an audiobook and she will go to town with these and some magnatiles for a loooooong time.

Stapelstein Mini Rainbow
•••
Depending on the price point, this mini version of the Stapelstein set would have been a massive hit for my child at that age! I love open-ended toys because they cab become whatever the child imagines! I love that this can be used in water or go outside and be easily cleaned! bring to the pool or beach, use it to make nature potions… their IG and website show a ton of uses! She’s 8.5 and I recently gifted her a larger set and a mini set and she instantly took to it-still at this age!

There are a bunch of versions of this, but man, does my two year old (and any visiting friends) love it. My parents bought it for him after he saw it at their house and talked about it for months. Only thing to beware - those cars run batteries down fast! Maybe invest in rechargeable AAs.

We have made ours into a boat, a cave, a mini club with flashing lights and music. My two year old loves hiding in it daily. I’m scheming to paint it and make it into something amazing…

What a weird instance of synchronicity. I read a thread asking for the same thing this morning on Reddit. I know you’ll be inundated with suggestions of toys, knickknacks, and all the material things in the world. But this response floored me; It’s probably a cliche. I’ll paste the response in its entirety here: “at two. time is the best thing you can spend. every single thing is new to them. go on a walk, check out nature, grow some flowers.”
