Samuel
•••
Samuel is a French animated series by Émilie Tronche about a sensitive 10-year-old boy navigating the confusion of pre-adolescence through his diary entries, featuring a distinctive black-and-white 2D style. Where to Watch: Netflix My Rating: 10/10 I’ve rewatched this several times. Each episode being 4 minutes long is both a blessing and a curse That and the animation style make it feel more personal and intimate, but oh my god does it end so fast. Samuel demonstrates a micro series type of storytelling, making short entries in a diary each a distinct episode, while tying them together through the common themes of growing up, falling in love, and socializing as a preteen.

ARCO
•••
Arco is an Oscar-nominated animated film. Sci-fi/Adventure ‧ 1h 29m In 2075, a 10-year-old girl, Iris, sees a mysterious boy wearing a rainbow jumpsuit falling from the sky. It's Arco. He comes from a distant, idyllic future where time travel is possible. Iris takes him in and will do whatever it takes to help him return home. Where to watch: Amazon, AppleTV My Rating: 7/10 I saw this in theaters. The animation was gorgeous but the pacing was kinda bonkers. They cram a lot into the ninety minutes. I laughed, I teared up.
