Truly great film about growing up and trying to be creative. Perennially underrated Ghibli.

Even if you just see it once, it's worth it. One of Kubrick's finest.

Folk horror film from 2018, inspired by monster flicks from the 80s. The story of how the making of this film is crazy - they wrote the script in 1998, shot over a 6 year period and would actually wait for rain to fall to begin shooting (and would then have to reset as the rain would stop). The IMDb trivia is fun to go through AFTER you see the movie. The music by Jesper Kyd (did the music for the Assassin’s Creed games among many others) is haunting. Production design? Disgustingly awesome. Script? Really really good. Go in blind and you will not be disappointed. It’s on my Top 4 on Letterboxd for a reason.

I've recommended this to at least a dozen people in the last year. A slow, dreamy, hypnotic portrait of the night shift at a hotel circa 1981. The rare film that perfectly captures nighttime.

Has iconic quote (“I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!”)which ranks in top 20 on AFI’s top movie quotes, but this movie is as relevant and powerful today as it was in 1976.

I saw this movie on a whim a few months ago and it’s on my top 10 list now. Deliciously 80’s. Romantic but realistic. Holly Hunter. Great dialogue. Fast pace. Holly Hunter. Flop sweat. Holly Hunter.

Hal Ashby directs based on Jerzy Kosinski’s book. Peter Sellers stars as Chance, a blank slate of a man, who rises to the highest echelons of power in Washington. It’s funny, poignant and now seems incredibly prescient.
