A “defining monument” of Northern Renaissance art, per the Met (and my art history prof in college, whose glowing comments about this piece made me seek it out when I finally went to Belgium years later). Truly remarkable to see. Great food in Ghent, too!

“I traveled to Ghent somewhat on a whim. It was a stop between two locations and the NYT did a 36-hours in Ghent article that piqued my interest. It’s a beautiful small city - but one of its most remarkable features is the Ghent Altarpiece - Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. It’s a gorgeous polyptych (new word for me!) that is considered the first oil painting. The lamb’s face restoration is worth look”
