This is a literary magazine that's been around since the 1970s that always has such a specific emotional impact whenever I read it. I will say AT TIMES it is a little bit "your older hippie uncle who is organizing the protest" - in a good way but maybe also sometimes in a way that maybe hits some cliches - but it's a magazine that's regularly made me laugh, cry, think, or consider a new idea. They have a "Readers Write" section where every month there's a new 1-word prompt and people write in personal stories; those are always really moving and unexpected. My best friend subscribed me to it when we were really young, and I kept it for many, many years (and at one point even joined a reading club to discuss it).

“My 12th grade government teacher had these magazines in her class and gave me extra credit for reading them. I had a subscription for a while, they’re very good. literature + poetry”

“Excellent gift idea: physical subscription to a lovely thoughtful magazine ⭐️ (or, alternatively, as my god father does ritually with The Sun, giving issues of a magazine to someone that you think would enjoy it when you’re done reading it 🥰)”
