Stumbled across this Russian artist and am glad I did. Influenced by Cezanne and the Fauvists - part of a Russian society of artists called the Jack of Diamonds (also new to me) and with a quirky life story. Sign me up! And I think his art is beautiful.

I traveled to Ghent somewhat on a whim. It was a stop between two locations and the NYT did a 36-hours in Ghent article that piqued my interest. It’s a beautiful small city - but one of its most remarkable features is the Ghent Altarpiece - Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. It’s a gorgeous polyptych (new word for me!) that is considered the first oil painting. The lamb’s face restoration is worth looking up…
