John Doe really captured lightning in a bottle with this one! That’s Kathleen Edwards singing with him, btw

A playlist of Velvet Underground and Lou Reed covers
•••
Some artists you've heard of, some you haven't. It all comes down to Lou Reeds genius songwriting. (Suggestions welcome)

Knight Rider for 8 cellos
•••
I never watched Knight Rider and certainly didn't know the theme song, but heard this on the car radio (thank you WFMU!) and had to hear it again! I'm a little disappointed that it's video only because it would definitely go in a playlist.

March, April- I’m not really sure when Taurus begins or ends but I like this song and it sounds appropriate. I also like the Art Garfunkel version

This Is The Modern World with Trouble on WFMU
•••
My go-to every Thursday Morning 9-12. This show really does defy categories; you might hear Nina Simone or Alice Coltrane and then you’re deep in drones, ragas, Terry Riley, Francis Hardy, contemporary classical, Brazilian tunes and sounds from all over the musical universe. Most of it I have never heard before- who needs any more indie rock?!? (Unless it's Geese, of course). I have an incredible playlist of beautiful music I that I first heard on this show. And if you can't tune-in WFMU archives everything!

The Best of The Band
•••
If you were to ask me “Do you like The Band?” I would say, “Fuck, yeah!” But the truth is that I don’t know many of their songs that are not on this record. This collection is so great- these songs are like short stories that reveal themselves again and again upon every listen. As many times as I’ve heard The Weight I have never once thought about skipping it.

Billy Preston, That's The Way God Planned It
•••
The music doc I didn't know I needed to see! Some of the music and performances are so great and joyous that my soul was stirred. I knew virtually nothing about Billy Preston's life or music and would have never gone to this if I hadn't been invited- I'm so glad to have seen it. He's incredible!

If you need to be reminded of the genius of David Bowie then this is the collection for you! It might be the greatest greatest hits record ever.
