Parenting hack: Use the Threat of the Yak

When my kids were little and misbehaving, I’d say, “If you keep doing that, I’ll feed you to the yak!” A little levity while still conveying you mean business is effective. Now that they’re grown, when they don’t return my calls, ignore my texts, or otherwise annoy me, I simply send them this photo.

I like to threaten my kids that I will send them to the zoo to become monkeys, but this is interesting and I may need to incorporate it into my daily threats.

I say this too!! I was super frustrated once and the line from Breakfast at Tiffany’s just popped out of my mouth. True to form, my very brainy then-five-year-old said “that makes no sense, yaks are vegetarian.” Perfect silly threat.
