High speed on the Northeast corridor or pretty good speed in the Midwest. We took it from Minneapolis to Milwaukee and loved it. There’s an observation car with glass walls and ceiling. And white table cloth dining (totally solid omelette!). Had a pleasant nap in a roomette.

Trains are the most efficient, pro-social, romantic modes of travel. Intercity rail, commuter rail, subways, light rail, trolleys; they’re all delightful ways to experience a place. From big cities to countrysides, you get a smooth ride, little to no congestion, good views, dedicated time to read or listen or zone out. And the people in the industry light up when they get to talk about it.
