i hate how many agendas have to conspire to push a single needle forward. this show maps out power so well and explains the current Hollywood movie industry landscape. i think it helps me understand myself more even. how much am i willing to compromise my artistic integrity? does my art require an audience's participation to meaningfully exist? am i willing to pay the costs of having one? the first episode is particularly compelling. it reminds me that its a miracle anything good and honest exists.

"the grave recieves you with love. surrender yourself to the Earth. return what was loaned to you. give up your pleasure, your pain, your friends, your lovers, your life, your past, what you desire. you will know nothingness, it is the only reality. don't be afraid, it's so easy to give. you're not alone, you have a grave. it was your first mother. the grave is the door to your rebirth. now you will surrender the faithful animal you once called your body. don't try to keep it, remember, it was a loan. surrended your legs, your sex, your hair, your brain, your all. you no longer want to possess, possession is the ultimate pain. the earth covers your body, she came to cover you with love, because she is your true flesh. now you are an open heart, open to receive your true essence your ultimate perfection. your new body, which is the universe, the work of god. you will be born again, you will be real. you will be your own father, your own mother, your own child, your own perfection. open your eyes, you are the earth, you are the green, you are the blue, you are the Aleph, you are the essence. look at the flower, look at the flower, for the first time look at the flowers."

clementine: when I was a kid, i thought I was {ugly}. i can't believe I'm crying already. sometimes I think people don't understand how lonely it is to be a kid, like you don't matter. so, I'm eight, and I have these toys, these dolls. my favorite is this ugly girl doll who I call Clementine, and I keep yelling at her, "you can't be ugly! be pretty!" it's weird, like if I can transform her, i would magically change, too. joel: [kisses Clementine] you're pretty. clementine: joely, don't ever leave me. joel: you're pretty... you're pretty... pretty..

apurbha: listen to this: a young boy. a young boy. a village boy. poor but sensitive. his father's a priest. the father dies. the boy comes to the city. he doesn't want to be a priest. he'll study. he's ambitious. he studies. through his education and struggles, we watch as he sheds his old superstitions and fixed views. he questions everything and takes nothing on trust. yet he has imagination and sensitivity. little things move him and bring him joy. perhaps he has greatness in him, the ability to create, but... pulu: he doesn't make it. apurbha: that's right. but it doesn't end there. it's not a tragedy. he does nothing great. he remains poor, in want. but he never turns away from life. he doesn't run away. he wants to live. he says living itself brings fulfillment and joy. he wants to live!

alejando: the darkness is swallowing everything. it's going to devour us. sara: alejandrito, do I love you? alejandra: yes, mama. sara: how much? alejandra: from the sky to the earth. sara: this is not my love, it comes from God. i am merely the sender. as God creates all, so we all radiate His love. my son, the darkness loves you as much as I do, for it is God's shadow.
