I've been wanting to hike the Continental Divide Trail for years. I'd like to actually take steps to make this a reality. But first: I've never backpacked before, though I have a LOT of camping experience. What are some light-weight, vital items for effective backpacking and camping? I have a good tent that's maybe five pounds, but what about sleeping bags, sleeping pads, any other gear?

Highly recommend getting some backpacking experience before you go. Test out carrying your gear for many miles. A 5 pound tent is probably too heavy for one person.
