Rufus Wainwright - Out Of The Game
•••
The year is 2012 and Rufus Wainwright has just dropped his latest album Out of the Game. They just don't make music videos like this anymore...the sheer campy delight of Helena Bonham Carter cosplaying a librarian while lip syncing to Rufus. Perfect.

Las Culturistas

"What is the culture that made you say culture is for you?" Is there anything these two can't do? They can sing, they can act, they can ask thoughtful questions. Favorite interviews have been Lucy Dacus, Brandi Carlile, Lena Dunham, and Orna Guralnik.

Touching the Art - Season 2 - Episode 3
•••
I loved this satirical interview series on the art world called Touching the Art, particularly this episode because it features the inimitable Kembra Pfahler. Casey Jane Ellison as host is genius."Is that a male on my set? Get out of here. I said no males here, I'll throw up."

Nola Rae Upper Cuts "Ballet" (1984)
•••
My sister recently took a weekend clowning workshop which prompted me to go down the rabbit hole of watching famous women clowns. To my delight, I stumbled across the work of Nola Rae whose early work combines "mime, dance, clowning, puppetry and controlled lunacy." I particularly love this sketch of a ballerina, which allows the audience to appreciate her simultaneous embodiment and affectionate parody of ballet as an art form.

Uta Hagen's Acting Class
•••
Another fabulous master class, one that I discovered in my teens and still come back to because it's such fun to watch. This one taught by legendary theater actor turned instructor, Uta Hagen. The partner scene work is less captivating for me than the individual acting exercises. The ultimate stamp of approval in a performance punctuated by Uta's tremendous, generous laughter. If I were an actor and made Uta laugh, I'd know that I was on the right track.

Joyce DiDonato Master Class: Mozart’s “Voi che sapete”
•••
It's wonderful to watch a master at work. Joyce DiDonato, famed coloratura mezzo soprano, has made a name for herself not only as an opera singer but a deeply generous and creative teacher. I especially love watching her work with novice singers. This one is fun.
