At 15, Berie works with Sils at a storybook-themed amusement park in their podunk upstate NY town, but their relationship begins to fray when Sils gets a serious boyfriend and then finds herself in serious trouble. This novel is a slim, brilliant work; the first time I read it, I knew I was reading a book I’d love forever.
