The admin varies depending on city — but this is the fast track to knowing your neighbors, living in a gosh-darn community, and getting the coveted chance to eat a popsicle/donut/slice of pizza in the middle of the street ♥️
You know what? EDITING TO ADD HOW I GOT MY BLOCK THROWING PARTIES:
-Set up an email group for anyone living on our block & put flyers on doorsteps to encourage folks to join.
-Sent an email to the group to gauge interest in block parties (word on the street was we hadn’t had any in at least a decade). People were into it, so we picked a date!
-Got the petition together (this is the city-specific paperwork part) and then set up a Google sheet so everyone could see what folks were bringing, which included everything from folding tables to corn hole to temporary tattoos.
-And then you show up! Extra points if you want to make some fun signs to block off the street (that’s one of mine in the picture) but honestly you can just put up some cones. Truly such a good time; we’re throwing our third one in two years next weekend. It has scary elements, like going door to door — but hoo boy it’s worth it.
