This is one of the most incredible pieces of journalism I have ever engaged with. Asma Al-Assad started as a middle class investment banker from London and became the First Lady of Syria. The podcast investigates and wrestles with whether or not she knew that her husband, Bashar Al Assad, was disappearing, murdering and torturing thousands of Syrians during the war. And if she knew, did she support him? It’s a pretty unflinching look at her time as First Lady. I LOVE IT

“Featured on The Wonderlyst CNN international correspondent Clarissa Ward recommended this podcast, and I listened to the whole thing in two days. It's the fascinating story of Syria's former First Lady, Asma al-Assad, who was once known simply as Emma, a middle-class girl from west London.”
