Turning cardboard boxes into play food

This has become my favorite granny hobby to do while we watch a show after bedtime. I save our cardboard boxes and slice them into fun shapes to paint for my daughter to play with. It's so soothing as an activity for me, and she is delighted by them and plays with them for ages serving weird little meals to her stuffed animals. They hold up better than I imagined but when they disintegrate I just get to make more and thats a treat for me since I am addicted to making them. Added bonus is I don't mind when there is a mess of them on the floor because they look like a fun tableaux.

Do you use any special cardboard cutting “knives”? Or just standard scissors? I’m always debating if i should get the cardboard chomp shop 🙃

Same it is so tempting but also so expensive! I have an old cheap electric cardboard cutter from Amazon that I’ve love and then I do the curvy parts with regular craft scissors and it’s been a totally fine!

We got a cardboard cutter for my son and it has been a hit! So now we will have to make play food together!
I got really into making play food out of felt, but this is simpler and something I can easily do with my five year old! Thanks!
