Needed this reminder. My brain considers what others would think of my actions by default and I’m trying to be conscious of the fact that actually, I don’t give a flying fadoodle!! I love this framing of embracing the cringe.

I have to remind myself frequently, too! It’s hard to not focus on what other people think, so I definitely have to encourage myself that “I want to be here” or “I want to do this” to get myself through. It’s a work in progress!

Working with middle schoolers has helped me embrace the cringe. There is no way I can be cool, so I am just my middle aged self. I try to model being myself for my students who are trying so hard to conform. It’s going to be okay to be yourself!

That’s fantastic!! I’m sure you being your authentic self to your students helps build trust with them, as well

I read this somewhere years ago - You’re judged no matter what, so might as well be judged for being yourself, so true!

My boomer mother drilled "What will people think?" into us. It has been very hard to let that go.

Oof, yeah, social peer pressure is so tough and definitely something I personally have to fight against frequently! Despite this, I hope you are able to engage in the the things you love, even if it isn’t always out in the open ❤️
