don’t offer choices you can't honor
Recommended by shira barlow, ms rdwe all do this at least once and learn the hard way because our words temporarily mean a little less and it sucks. and we often do the same thing to ourselves when we say something enough times without real intention to follow through (“i’ll rest after this,” “i’ll start monday”) we kinda quietly stop believing ourselves. so let’s only put it on the table if we meannnn it love u. that’s how we build self trust :)

Related but different…I try to say ‘yes’ unless there’s a good reason to say ‘no’ (safety, timing, nutritional considerations, etc) and I let the reason be known to the children. Like you want to wear 2 different colored crocs or wear a weird hat to school? sure go wild.
