Being a twin

Gen Z describes anyone who they are close with as “twin” and I just want to say MY CULTURE IS NOT YOUR COSTUME.

Being a twin, and like, the kind of twins you see in the movies who actually do everything together, is such a delight. It’s a blessing and a curse really, because I will never know what true independence is (don’t ask what happens when one of us dies, the answer is we will be doing assisted twin suicide so we never have to be on earth without each other).

Joel and I are truly life partners - we have had the same friend groups our entire lives, came out together, studied the same thing at university, moved to brand new cities together, travelled to different cities together, wrote lots of songs together! Hell, we don’t even have a true identity, everyone just calls us “the twins”. Sometimes I wonder if I would be half as interesting if I didn’t come as a package deal with someone who looks just like me!

Of course, being twins who walk arm in arm through life has its challenges. Dating can be hard because we were already born with a life partner, so we aren’t really craving to find “our person”, we were born with one! It sounds pathetic because we are grown men but hey… it is what it is!

Whether you are a twin in this life or the next, I highly recommend it because it brings whole new life into the lyrics of YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE!
