If you loved northwoods or the safekeep (or, obviously, any of o'farrell's other works) please, please read this book. Land takes on what happens when forces beyond your control (the great hunger) tear your history apart, what it means to own vs be on/of land, how small (perhaps regrettable) choices ripple out through generations. Beautiful descriptions of place. And, I've been googling Irish wolfhound puppies.
