Another day, another rec about making life better for your pets!!!
When I was younger and had my first ever cat of my very own, I didn’t know all of the everyday things that are extremely harmful to them. I also see these things in cat owners’ spaces all the time and so here is some News You Can Use:
• Eucalyptus is toxic to cats in every form! But especially…
• ESSENTIAL OIL. Cats don’t have glucuronyl transferase enzymes in their liver, meaning they can’t break down the compounds found in many essential oils. Exposure can happen by contact or simply breathing it in from Diffusers, candles, and fabric sprays!
• Onions, garlic, chives: When I cook chicken, I cook a small bite with zero oil and zero seasoning on a clean pan, but I DONT let them have a bite since these allium species can damage their red blood cells!
• Many flowers and plants! For example, all parts of Lilies cause fatal kidney failure. When buying a bouquet, I build my own from cat-safe flowers or check each component. I also only bring cat-safe (not toxic) houseplants. If youre in Chicago, PLANT SHOP on Elston in Albany Park is my favorite—they note the toxicity for pets on every label ❤️
