on a free morning, free afternoon, or better yet--a free day, sometimes my girlfriend and I will go 90s mode. we leave our phones at home (yes, you could just turn them off if you really want) and we walk out into the world with no plans.
the result is relief, freedom, and a joie de vivre that I can only compare to riding my bike home from the bar. last time we lucked out at a neighbor's moving sale, saw a movie (the one we wanted to see less, just bc it was the next one playing), and walked to a favorite bar.
yes, it's a no-phone thing, but it's also a no-plans thing. it's practice at letting the day be what it's gonna be, no squeezing everything in or wasting energy optimizing the afternoon's plans. bonus if you go 90s mode alone -- ah, to go back!
