I am a lover of right turn on red but I am also aggressively looking for pedestrians and I buy that most people are not!

I think we can come to a good compromise with no right turn on red in cities and yes right turn on red in the suburbs/rural since the cities are were the pedestrians are at 🤝🤝

Yea I totally agree that within cityscapes we shouldn’t do turn on red. But, in more rural or suburban areas it helps with congestion/road efficiency far too much to get rid of it. Sadly we are an extremely car centric society so the infrastructure is typically geared towards car not pedestrian.

This is the norm in Taiwan where there is a heavy pedestrian population. They have dedicated right turn signals just like with left turns.

I would like to expand this to left on green as well. Arrows only.

Agreed! RTOR is one day gonna feel like driving without seatbelts: a weird relic of the past before we knew better.

I’m up in Seattle and SDOT has been updating a lot of the intersections with “No Turn on Red” signs and providing pedestrian headstarts (walk/ bike signs turn on before vehicle greens). It’s great!
