Portraits and Dreams

Over the past 5+ decades, Wendy Ewald has embedded herself in communities to teach photography and make bodies of work that combine her photographs of the place and her students with their photographs of themselves and each other. Fifty years after she first moved to Appalachia and started making "Portraits and Dreams" in Letcher Co., KY, Wendy is still in touch with her former students. This re-issue of "Portraits and Dreams" includes contemporary text and photos from a handful of the original group.
