Sometimes modern life feels like a giant, very insistent survey. Polarizing issues, in-group politics, values and ideals, not to mention the latest celebrity scandal. Shock and awe, social media pile-ups, and other dramatic (over-)reactions seem constantly called for...but perhaps they're not? Maybe an ideal response is actually nothing at all.
More and more, I'm coming to think that it's perfectly acceptable, liberating even, to abstain from having any opinion about things we're uninformed on or don't really care about.
Peptides? Bleeding-edge cell phones? Trump's latest insubstantial diatribe? Skip me with that stuff. All I'll say is "I don't know."
(And don't miss the sibling of this rec: "Having an opinion, but choosing not to share it.")
