The 10-minute centerpiece of their concept album Phosphorescent Blues, “Familiarity” is more thesis than song — and feels complete in a way that would border on esoteric if it weren’t also so profoundly poignant.
Divided into movements, the song moves dynamically through shifting time signatures, unorthodox chord modulations, and lush vocal harmonies. I’ve listened to it a million times and still get full-body goosebumps. True masterpiece.
