YMCA

Before there was the Equinox, Soul Cycle, Chelsea Piers, there was the YMCA. No frills, but truly a community anchor. Our local YMCA (Dodge) has amazing programming for adults, kids, and seniors, is reasonably priced (offers financial assistance if needed), and is incredibly family friendly. There's few spaces in NYC, aside from the subway, where you feel like people from different backgrounds come together and share space, but the Y is one of them. (I won't name names, but I'd say some local celebs agree ... and Ethan Hawke.)
