I’m a third-generation Snoopy-head on my dad’s side & my family’s various opinions on Peanuts are fiercely held and hotly defended. Personally, I will always go to bat for “when Snoopy is a vulture” as the height of comedy.

This is the Snoopy that pop culture is afraid to face for fear of losing the purity of its image of him being nothing more than a delightful, adorable beagle who dances with bunnies and dons roomy winter wear. But the bright light of truth will break through one day, and it shall be known… Snoopy is mischief boy. He lives for the hijinks.

I have so much to say about this response that it exceeds the character limit. The contemporary memeificafion of Snoopy by people who don’t even really get him is one of my many crosses to bear (a very normal thing to say at my age!!) Everyone should read that bio of Charles Schulz that came out awhile back. It will forever change the way you understand Snoopy/Peanuts.

You all might enjoy the Unpacking Peanuts podcast, where the hosts read and discusses every Peanuts comic strip in chronological order. While Episode 1 appears to be missing, Episode 2 starts right at the beginning with the very first ever Peanuts strip published on October 2, 1950.
