Have two weddings! One for family, one for friends.

We wanted a simple wedding — so we had two! Sounds crazy, but planning an event that accommodated our large extended families AND our close friends was turning out to be a difficult (and costly) exercise.

We ended up having a DIY backyard reception at my parent’s house for family. It was fun and casual. We had BBQ, homemade pie (made by my mom’s friends) and ice cream. It was perfect.

The next weekend 20 of our closest friends flew in. We had a short ceremony and a fancy candlelit five-course dinner. Since it was small we could really treat everyone which was so special.
