Sketching kissaten interiors: Very niche, and possibly only of interest to me, but I found that this was ideally suited to the quiet atmosphere of old-school Japanese cafes. It’s really nice to nurse a coffee or tea, nibble on a slice of cake or toast, and absentmindedly draw.

Shin Kogei in Takayama: Absolutely gorgeous paper crafts. I’ve linked to the official shop, since it’s much harder to find, but I think the New and Old Arts Town Store is an official purveyor, too, and also excellent; they’re just a few blocks away.

Go to many parks!: I went to Tokyo last spring and never regretted going to parks and nature. Especially in the summer you need that shade. The coolest things we did:
- All-you-can-drink sake bar: bring you own food and pay for the hour. Test out obscure sakes made from rice, sweet potato, fruit. Talk to the bartenders! 
- the tea house in Hamarikyu gardens was an oasis with affordable tea and sweets

- Walking around Nakameguro, Daikanyama and Ebisu. Residential areas with many small shops and cafés. The best bookshop = Tsutaya books

- Best souvenirs (and things for ourselves) at Loft Shibuya. We spent many hours browsing! Don't forget to get everything tax free at the top floor.
