Miss Rumphius (Barbara Cooney)
This book captivated me as a child because of the illustrations. Then when I encountered it again as a mother, I was blown away at how progressive Miss Rumphius was. A woman who doesn't get married, doesn't have children, and travels the world. Our copy at home is falling apart and I just ordered a hardcover version. My 11-year-old daughter has moved away from picture books, so this new book will mostly be for me.
