Go thrifting!: Thrifting. Antiquing. To a consignment shop. To a flea market. To me, it's all interchangeable language. What I really mean is pleaseeee don't just buy new prints with cheap frames -- your wall will have no depth. So, please find pieces in different mediums to give your wall the depth you're looking for -- paintings, drawings, photos, 3D objects, et al. The below was a quirky collage I found in a "sports" forward antique shop in England. You might already have a palette for your room, which can help with a through line for all of your items. Have fun!

Peel and stick wallpaper: I’ve used this to create an accent wall in apartments before. Comes off super easy. Textured walls can be tricky, but not impossible. It can be pricey so I went with one wall in a bold print.

Posters from  museums/exhibits you love: I grew up with this; my parents have tons of museum posters backed simply and ultra-affordably on foam-core. I think there’s something honestly nice and proletarian about the text banner.

Big Frame + Bold Mat + B/W Photo: A rental wall is a strange little challenge: you need it to feel like home, but you’re not allowed to actually make it yours.

My favorite fix? Frame black-and-white photos in the biggest frames you can find, then give them an absurdly generous mat in a color you love. The photo stays quiet, the mat does the talking.

Hang three together and suddenly your wall looks intentional, collected, and slightly more expensive than it was. A tiny gallery. A little drama. No landlord involved
