A great book! A solid mix of theology, philosophy, and science fiction. A Jesuit priest leads a crew to another planet to make first contact with an alien race. Already a bit different, right? Things take some unfortunate turns, allowing an exploration of what evil is, what it means to be human, and more. One of the best books I’ve read.

“Rereading my all time favorite book and it’s even better than I remember. Beautiful writing, lovable characters, twisty plot. It delves into linguistics, culture, and theology in a way that I only partially understood in my first reading as a Christian and which means even more to me now as an agnostic. Somehow even though it’s a tragedy it feels like a hug.”
