Destiny of the Republic (Candice Millard)

Read this 5 or so years ago and have recommended it SO many times since. I knew nothing about President Garfield before reading, and he sounded like a decent and humble man who would've been a great president if he wasn't met with tragedy so early into his term. The book also talks about the discovery of germs, and I found this part to be pretty jawdropping. Netflix made a show based on this book which I still need to watch.
