Hi! So if you’re in your late 30s or older you know gossipy, snarky journalists ended up doing amazing work, and we were spoiled with a free and fair press. If you’re younger, i’m not sure if you ever really got to experience that — that you could confidently feel like a free and fair press were chasing down stories of fraud and greed with determination.
i have been shocked and disturbed by sports outlets and fellow podcasters willingness to throw pablo torre under the bus, triple down on denying his absolutely incredible work, and try to dismiss it as lightweight reporting. its not. it’s absolutely incredible reporting. i’m not sure where we are headed if the entire opinion and news apparatus is willing to buy billionaire excuses and press releases as wholesale truth in the face of the kind of proof Torre accumulated. Don’t worry, Torre won a pulitzer — the work is being acknowledged, but the tone of which it’s been received in some mainstream corners darks me out.
it doesn’t matter if you don’t like sports. this is a tale of corporate greed and fraud, and it’s absolutely riveting — with mark cuban making an appearance! torre is expanding the medium of podcasting into sort of a real time long form breaking news apparatus while telling deep stories about where politics and sports intersect. your jaw will drop at the abject brazen fraud but you’ll also be laughing! enjoy.
