I don’t know how managed to escape watching Watership Down as an 80s kid until I was much older, but I did love Secret of NIMH which was only slightly less violent/traumatizing. I guess the comic relief of Dom Delouise voicing a klutzy crow glossed over much of the traumatic stuff in my memory.

Wow. This has been with me for decades. I saw it in 1978 at Radio City Music Hall with my godmother at the time when Radio City Music Hall was not renovated or fancy and it was a harrowing experience that I mostly repressed.

Everyone always said this one was depressing. It is. So then I watched the plague dogs, by the same creators. WAtership Down was nothing compared to Plague Dogs. Easily the most depressing work of any media I’ve ever consumed.
