Having a boy

Boys can get a bad rap, especially in TV and movies, as stinky, rude, thankless creatures raised by their long-suffering mothers. But, over the past 15 years, my experience has shown me something completely different. I’ve met a hundred little boys, and they’re consistently sweet, vulnerable, funny, goofy and beautiful; and they desperately want to be good, kind and loved.

My 11.5-year-old son is sweet, smelly, and so affectionate. He tells me every night that he loves me a “banana-frillion” — and a “capybara-dillion” if I’m extra lucky.

HA! Yes, my teenage daughter (who now wears the same shoe size as me and borrows my heels so she's even TALLER taller than me) loves to "casually" comment on our height difference.

I’m Mom to two young adult guys. I’m from a large girl family having two sisters myself and a mother who was one of seven girls. Often when they were tiny people would see me out with my boys and say “boys are easier” and I found that to be untrue. If you want great men in the world you have to start by parenting your boys well through every stage.Teach them love and kindness. Keep them talking through the teen years. You can’t just throw a ball at a boy and expect him to turn out alright.

I am 8 months pregnant with my second boy and unlikely to have another child. I have been so surprised by the grief of knowing I won’t have a daughter. It is so healing to read about “boy moms” who genuinely love being moms to boys. Thank you for sharing!

Well, welcome to being stepmom to only boys (young adults) coming from an only girls family house. Blows my mind how they also go through similar hardships and heartbreaks as girls do. Thanks for sharing
