Yes. One of the best places to do this is at the airport when moms are overwhelmed and single handing it ❤️

My favorite thing to say to new moms is “you have so much fun ahead of you.” Moms so often hear about all the hard stuff of parenting and not enough about the joy! (I think I learned this from Cup of Jo!)

Corollary: when a mom friend tells you rather vehemently that you’re a great mom, and you are not (to your knowledge) in a rough patch of parenting, consider that they may need to hear it back. This has happened a few times to me: mom friends who — when feeling underappreciated themselves for all they do — seek to affirm those mom skills in others. Which is such a kind and selfless instinct, but also confusing when you get a strong compliment from a friend and are unsure where it came from. When it happened to me, I bounced the compliment back and asked them how things were going and… they definitely needed to be affirmed.
