Thanking children

I try really hard to not say “Good job” to my students (who are young children) because Alfie Kohn’s praise vs. encouragement philosophy really got to me when I was a younger teacher.

To scratch that itch without making kids external-motivation-praise-addicts, I like to thank them when they help me or are kind to each other. Because I am grateful, and even young kids should know that their actions are appreciated by others.
