I know this is everywhere on the Internet, but it’s the only thing that’s actually worked for me (and I often slip up and am left with tons of dishes anyway, don’t worry). I try to have a closing shift at home every night. Cleaning often a little bit is so much better than cleaning a mountain. This includes doing the dishes and general straightening. Even putting away the clothing pile if I have it in me. I pretend like I’m a tavern wench. I pretend like I’m working a closing shift at a small town diner. I pretend like I’m a single mom who works three jobs. You get the gist. Also a really great sponge, really great dish soap, and a fun pair of gloves help with the fantasy.

Lol, I'm a single mom with three jobs and I have so much trouble with this concept and execution. The "closing shift" mind game might actually work for me, though! Along with nice supplies.

“Get these for the friend who does less of the cooking, more of the cleaning. May I suggest Laila and Nadia Gohar’s dainty dish gloves tagged with SPILL QUEEN, WET WORK, or, simply, SLOP?”

“As someone without a dishwasher, I may as well elevate the experience of hand washing.”
