My favorite way to San Diego and back is the Surfliner, hugging the California coastline the whole ride. No traffic, no parking, just ocean views and waving at lifeguards along the way.

“How civilized. No traffic, stunning views, snacks & (did someone say) cocktails. People watching & chatting, how lucky are we? Recently took the Surfliner from Old Town San Diego straight to charming San Juan Capistrano’s Los Rios District to find charming shops, tour the Mission & its garden in bloom, and had a final beer at Trevor’s on the Tracks waiting for the return, with a Beatles cover band”
