The Hangar: Beachwood, Ohio

An absolute Art Deco gem built as the playhouse of the Blossom family that is now a private athletic club. The tennis court is a dream-a Har-Tru surface underneath a massive span of murky skylights. Vines creep up the walls and there is a little viewing gallery with checkered floors and rattan lounge chairs; placards on the walls record championship wins going back decades. I'm particularly fond of the doorknobs, all shaped like Alice in Wonderland characters, the gonzo nautical mural in the central hall, and the amazing pink porcelain sinks in the womens' locker room. The pool is pretty fabulous, too.
